My name is Liam Richards; I am 21 years old and the Chief Instructor and owner of Excel Martial Arts in Sheffield.
I have been training in Martial Arts for 14 years. Excel Martial Arts began teaching classes out of gyms and school halls in june 2007. It quickly developed into a popular hobby for over 160 students training per week from age 3-72. In 2008, my colleague and I reached the final of ITV's Britain's Got Talent as Martial Arts duo Strike, with 15 million people tuning into the show.
Since then, we have performed in front of thousands of people and for 6 weeks featured as Kung Fu pirates in Peter Pan at the Opera House Manchester. More recently we have been going into primary and secondary schools across England delivering workshops and educating children about life skills, nutrition, anti-bullying and health and fitness.
At Excel Martial Arts we always look to provide an excellent service to the whole family and encourage students to achieve excellence in all areas of their lives. Our aim is to provide a service that is not only great for the community, helps to reduce crime, bullying and anti-social behaviour but also makes people feel happier and healthier. We are not biased and accept anyone regardless of race, sex or nationality, as one of our aims is to bring people of the community together. We make sure our prices are affordable averaging out at around £3.75 per class but we offer scholarships to some students who cannot afford to pay for the classes themselves. We also plan to form close links with the schools so that thousands of children will feel the benefits of Excel Martial Arts training.
Our main passion here at Excel Martial Arts is teaching children and adults, motivating them to achieve their goals and showing them that if they work hard enough they can aspire to be whatever they want to be. We feel that we are inspirational role models for the younger generation.
